INTRO

A quest for better memory keeping

I created Memory Lane, a micro-journaling app tailored for Gen Z. My goal was to help users capture moments without digital overload, making journaling feel personal and easy.

Key Insights: How Gen Z Journals

I explored how Gen Z captures and revisits memories through interviews, surveys, and research. The following insights shaped the direction of the product.

Evening Fatigue

Journaling daily sounds great, but people are often too tired at night. I explored ways to make it fit into routines when users actually have the energy.

"I want to journal every day, but sometimes feel sleepy, so I skip"

"I usually write before of after dinner"

Visual Preference

Gen Z prefers images over text, so I focused on a visual-first approach—seamless media integration and less friction in capturing moments.

"I heard other people record voice journals, but I am a visual person"

"I'll write very short entries, like tweet updates"

The Joy of Revisiting

Users love revisiting memories but don’t want endless scrolling. I designed a more intentional space that highlights key moments without overwhelming them.

"I like to go back to my younger self"

"It's another way for me to keep track of my mental growth"

Evolution of the Moment Cards

Evolution of the Moment Cards

Moment Cards started out quite rigid and structured, but through user feedback and iterations, they became more playful, customizable, and personal.

Usability testing and first reactions to the prototype

Refinement of onboarding (users were initially confused about the app concept)

Before - Text was hard to read, and users found the cards unclear

After - Improved clarity with animation and accessible text
